Contractor prospect lists for marketing agencies
Lists of the plumbers, HVAC companies, roofers, electricians, solar installers and remodelers who are pulling building permits in Austin, TX and Chicago, IL: the busiest, the new names and the movers, by trade and ZIP. Built every morning from public records, published by the City of Austin and the City of Chicago.
For agencies that sell SEO, ads, websites or Google Business Profile work to home-service contractors.
Why agencies use it
Reach contractors early
A contractor whose first permit in our data falls in the last 30 days is new to the city's records. It may still be building the business, and still choosing a website, ads and a Business Profile.
Put real activity first
Sort prospects by the permits they pulled, not by guesswork. The busiest have work to show. The movers show who is pulling more permits than the month before, and who is pulling fewer.
Pitch with local data
Open with the contractor's own numbers: how many permits they pulled in the last 90 days, in which ZIPs, and how the last 30 days compare with the 30 before. It is public record, so you can say where it came from.
From the latest Austin plumbing contractors report: the busiest contractor pulled 192 plumbing permits in the last 90 days, 90 of them in the last 30. Number 10 on the list pulled 40. Public records, published by the City of Austin, to 3 Nov 2026.
What is in each report
One report per metro and trade, rebuilt every morning after the daily collection. Sent as a CSV.
- The busiest
- The top 50 contractors by permits pulled in the last 90 days, with their last 30 days, the 30 days before, their share of the trade's permits, the median declared value where the city publishes one, and their top 3 ZIPs.
- New contractors
- Contractors whose first permit in our data falls in the last 30 days, with the date of that first permit and the ZIPs they work in. Names that read like a person's name are left out of this list.
- Movers
- The biggest movers up and down over the last 30 days, against the 30 days before.
- By ZIP
- Permits per ZIP in the last 30 days, where the city publishes a ZIP. The Chicago dataset has no ZIP column, so ZIP can be blank there.
- Business contacts
- Website, a general email from the company's own site, business phone and city, where we could match the name to a public contractor license list or the company's own website. A column stays blank when there is no confident match.

Counts are permits issued in the window, from public records published by each city. Updated 3 Nov 2026.
What it is not
- No homeowner names, phone numbers or email addresses. We do not add them from any source.
- Contractors only: the contractor of record as the city publishes it. We drop owner, tenant and applicant names.
- Business contact details only where a company publishes them itself, and never a named person's email address.
- Not a promise of results. Public records are public, and other agencies can get the same rows.
- You are responsible for following the law on any outreach you do with the data, such as do-not-call rules and CAN-SPAM. This is a plain statement of who is responsible, not legal advice.
How the lists are built
- We read the last 12 months of permits each city publishes and sort them by trade with fixed keyword rules. Rules make mistakes, so a permit can be filed under the wrong trade or missed.
- A contractor's spellings are grouped by name, ignoring legal endings such as LLC or Inc and punctuation. Two firms with the same name count as one; one firm under two different names counts as two.
- Permits with no contractor named, and owner-pulled permits, are not credited to anyone.
